Tour de France Final Stage Posters – Champs-Élysées, Paris

July 22, 2010

With so much beauty to be seen during the Tour de France, it is no wonder that Graham Watson, one of the most revered cycling photographers, has become so popular. His images are timeless and capture the moment like no other. Through the years his images have captivated many, and his photos of the final stage are no different.

Since 1975 the Tour de France has had its final stage run through prestigious Northwest Paris. Longjumeau to Champs-Élysées is a 102.5km stage, which starts in Essonne, a town 20km outside of Paris, and ends in North-western Paris.  At this distance it will be the shortest stage of the Tour. Not since 1989 has there been a shorter stage.

While the distance may be less, the scenery and excitement is not. Starting in a small town of only 20,000 people the racers will make their way down the N20, through endless fields and crops. After a hilly 45 km ride, they will make their way into Paris, which will be relatively flat for the final sprint.  While riding down Champs- Élysées, the tour will pass right through the shadow of one of the most famous landmarks on the planet, the Eiffel Tower. The race ends in spectacular fashion are racers barrel towards  Arc de Triomphe.
