Vintage MLB Posters

January 22, 2009
In part 3 of our 4 part series on some of the most memorable plays in each sport, we look at Major League Baseball. The ‘boys of summer’ have always been good at creating long lasting mental images, as that is what America’s game is all about, the memories. MLB has some legendary rivalries in the form of YankeesRed Sox, DodgersGiants, and the Cubs-Cardinals. Some all time great players have come out of these rivalries: Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig and many more! So without further adieu, the staff at Sports Poster Warehouse present our picks for the TOP 5 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL MOMENTS OF ALL TIME!
5. October 22, 1975. World Series, Game 6. Boston Red Sox trail Cincinnati Reds three games to two. Game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 12th inning. Pat Darcy delivers, Carlton Fisk swings. Deep drive down the left field line – will it stay fair? Fisk uses all the body english he can muster, and seemingly wills the ball to stay right. Miraculously, the ball hits the foul pole, giving Fisk a game winning homer – Red Sox win! Red Sox win! Game 7 tomorrow! The dream stays alive! It was, quite possibly, the greatest World Series game of all-time, and the image of Fisk pushing the ball fair, then leaping in celebration, is one of the most endearing moments in sports history.

4. It is perhaps the most rare occurrence in baseball – the walk-off Home Run to win the World Series. Toronto baseball fans will never forget the last time it happened – October 23, 1993, when Joe Carter took a down-and-in Mitch Williams fastball over the left-field fence to clinch a second-straight World Series championship for the Blue Jays, and send Skydome into a state of euphoria! This spectacular print commemorates that moment with pure photographic perfection, capturing the joy of victory like you’ve never seen it before. As Joe leaps high in the air rounding third base to give high-fives to third base coach Nick Leyva, and broadcaster Tom Cheek makes his famous “Touch ‘em All, Joe” call…SNAP!

3. One of the most famous images in baseball history! After decades of segregation, Brooklyn Dodgers owner Branch Rickey broke ranks and brought Jackie Robinson from the Negro Leagues to the Major Leagues, smashing the color barrier that kept African-Americans off the big stage. After a year in the minors, Jackie took the field in the big leagues for the first time on April 18, 1947 - and, to a standing ovation, scored the winning run! While even some teammates rejected Robinson’s mere presence in the clubhouse, three of the classiest Dodgers of all-time showed true humanity and solidarity, boldly joining Jackie on the top step of the dugout. Spider Jorgensen, Pee Wee Reese, and Eddie Stanky, as true stand-up gentlemen, were also a minority that day in Flatbush.

2. It was an earth-shaking, record-shattering season – 1974, the year Hammerin’ Hank Aaron passed Babe Ruth and became baseball’s all-time Home Run king! This amazing poster features a classic image from the era, giving you the classic Hank Aaron swing in lush sepia-tone beauty. Of course, with the bat shattering, this poster clearly does not show you one of Hank’s 755 career Home Runs, but it does demonstrate the power and poise of this American legend.

1. “Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth… I may have had a tough break, but I have an awful lot to live for.”
Lou Gehrig. July 4, 1939 at Yankee Stadium

Pedroia and Longoria: The Top Two Young Guns In Baseball

January 6, 2009

This past MLB season provided a great deal of excitement, intensity and sensational play. Two of the biggest catalysts from this past season include the reigning American League MVP, Dustin Pedroia and the AL’s rookie of the year, Evan Longoria.

Pedroia, has become an instant star, having put up unbelievable numbers in his first two full seasons in the big leagues. He has already been named as the AL Rookie of the Year in 2007, an AL Gold Glove winner (2008), an AL Silver Slugger (2008), AL MVP (2008), on top of being a World Series Champion with the Boston Red Sox (2007). Pedroia is poised to have a remarkable career. From the world’s leading sports photography marketer, Photo File Inc., this is a high-quality, fully-licensed 16″x20″ print, published on heavy photographic stock, artistically designed to perfection, and affixed with an official MLB Properties holographic logo for authenticity.

Longoria, on the other hand, was not an instant stat out of college. In fact, he didn’t even earn a scholarship out of highschool. He spent a year at community college and then earned his chance with Long Beach State. Since being drafted 3rd overall by the Tampa Bay Rays, Longoria has fought his way up to the Majors from Single A ball. He finally got his chance in the big leagues this April, and hasn’t looked back since. From the world’s leading sports photography marketer, Photo File Inc., this is a high-quality, fully-licensed 16″x20″ print, published on heavy photographic stock, and affixed with an official MLB Properties holographic logo for authenticity.
