New York Giants Superbowl XLII Champions – Commemorative posters

February 25, 2008

The New York Giants are Super Bowl Champions!!!   As a Patriots fan, it has been hard to swallow.  They were so close, but the Giants played a great game and now we can continue the discussion whether the Patriots are the best team ever.  At least I will.  The Giants winning is old news, but theses posters will help you remember the event forever or haunt your memory forever.

Let’s not forget the Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning.   At the beginning of the NFL season, if you told me Manning would be Super Bowl MVP, I would have said sure I could see that, but ELI.  It is still hard for me to believe that it was Eli and not Peyton.

Congrats to Eli Manning, the New York Giants on a great victory and to all Giants fans.

2007, a Year in Posters

January 2, 2008

After a hectic Christmas rush here at Sports Poster Warehouse, we’ve been throwing some ideas around the office as to what posters would best represent the top five sporting moments of 2007. Not the easiest feat considering the events of the past twelve months, but like the athletes we dream that we are – we gave it our best and compiled what we think is a nice little top five.

Firstly though, some honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the cut, mostly because there aren’t any posters for them!

-The Rugby World Cup, and the upsets it contained – Argentina beats France in the opening match, Fiji making the knock-out stages, favorites New Zealand choke against France and England beat Australia in the quarter finals, and despite Jonny Wilkinson finding form and finishing the tournaments top scorer, South Africa go on to claim the title.

-Barry Bonds breaks one of Major League Baseballs most revered records, eclipsing Hank Aaron and finishing the season with 762 career homeruns. We know what you’re thinking – steroids, perjury charges, etc, still Big Bad Barry has hit 762 more home-runs than our entire office combined.-Dwayne Leverock leaving his day job as a policeman to represent Bermuda in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. 280-odd pounds, loves a good curry, and takes arguably one of the best catches of the tournament. Australia go on to claim the title.

-The Rockies have one of the greatest comebacks in MLB history. I was once told “Sure, Coors Field is a beautiful park, but you have to see the Rockies play” – World Series baseball in the mile high city? Brilliant.

And now, our top-five:
5. David Beckham makes his MLS debut.

Granted, yes, he was plagued by injuries and didn’t exactly have a stellar season. One thing that can’t be denied is how much a player of his caliber raises the profile of Major League Soccer.

Becks

4. Man United claim the Barclays Premiership for the first time since 2003.

Lead as always by Sir Alex, the season saw both Rooney and Ronaldo put the last World Cup behind them and both finish amongst the seasons top 5 goal scorers, taking the premiership – for now and for some, back to where it belongs.

3. Gators go consecutive.

The Florida Gators survive the sixty-four team competition beating Ohio State to claim their second straight Division I National Championship.

2. Sidney Crosby continues to etch his name in the history books.

Crosby had a monumental year – he won the Art Ross Trophy, was named captain of the Penguins, and turned 20, making him the youngest captain in the history of the NHL.

1. Just being a sports fan in Boston.

Really, is there a better time to be from the Boston area?

The Red Sox do something that your father would have thought of as impossible – go into the playoffs as favorites, and win.

Tom Brady and Randy Moss lead the Patriots to a perfect season, this of course won’t have the same impact unless they can continue winning and take out Superbowl XLII in Feburary.

To top things off the Celtics are having a pretty damn good season too, but more on the Celtics next time.

Until then – Happy New Year, and all the best in 2008 from the staff at Sports Poster Warehouse.
